Light - Reflection and Refraction — Class 10 Science

Take a timed mock test to prepare for your exams.

Chapter Mock Test

Total Marks:35
Duration:90 min
Total Questions:25
Difficulty:Mixed

Test Structure

  • Section A: 10 MCQs (1 mark each)
  • Section B: 8 Short Answer (2-3 marks each)
  • Section C: 4 Long Answer (5 marks each)
  • Total: 25 questions in 90 minutes

Before taking the test

  • Know all key formulas: Mirror (1/f=1/v+1/u), Snell's law (n₁sinθ₁=n₂sinθ₂), Lens formula (1/f=1/u+1/v)
  • Understand sign convention: Concave mirror f positive, Convex mirror f negative
  • Practice ray diagrams for all mirror and lens positions to visualize image formation
  • Remember: Light bends TOWARD normal entering denser medium, AWAY from normal entering rarer medium
  • Practice numerical problems on refraction, critical angle, and total internal reflection
  • Know power of lens P = 1/f (with f in metres) and how to combine lenses
  • Understand applications: Telescopes (long f objective + short f eyepiece), Microscopes, Periscopes, Optical fibres (TIR)
  • Be clear on difference between real images (inverted, can project) and virtual images (erect, cannot project)

Must-Know Formulas

Mirror Formula:

1/f = 1/u + 1/v

Snell's Law:

n₁ sin i = n₂ sin r

Lens Formula:

1/f = 1/u + 1/v

Power of Lens:

P = 1/f (f in metres)

Magnification:

m = -v/u (mirror), m = v/u (lens)

Critical Angle:

sin θc = n₂/n₁ = 1/n

Refractive Index:

n = c/v

Focal Length:

f = R/2
